"Chimney
Rock Trail"
CAPITOL REEF NATIONAL PARK |
||
| Trail description: From the parking area, Chimney Rock sits southeast and the trail heads northeast. There is little shade, so carry plenty of water on hot days. The trail crosses a dry creek bed at 1/4 mile and starts a series of swithbacks up a fault in the bluff. After the switchbacks end you come to a trail junction. Go right to start the loop. The trail smooths out and bends around the mountain behind Chimney Rock. At 3/4 mile the trail overlooks Chimney Rock. Chimney Rock disappears after the overlook and the trail becomes steeper. You reach a plateau with views of the Waterpocket Fold and Boulder Mountain. At 1.3 miles into the hike, the trail goes downhill and snakes toward Spring Canyon. At the bottom, at 2.3 miles in, is the trail junction. Go left for Chimney Rock. The trail follows a dry creek and gently goes uphill, where you once again come to the first trail junction. Because of steep drop-offs and no guard rails, the trail is not recommended for families with small children | ||
